Entry from: Beaune, France Entry Title: "And now we sample Burgundy for a couple of days" Entry: "Yesterday, we drove through countryside like Willamette valley near Salem, Oregon -- rolling hills and much farmland. Arrived in Beaune a little after noon and Bob was quickly deteriorating into a sick, argumentative bad companion but was looking forward to seeing doctor so you know he was bad! Our guide told stories of her life in France as a student and her French host family. Lots of discussion about French history and politics. Then, on to Beaune for lunch on our own. We ate in a cute little restaurant inside the walls of this medieval wine town in Burgundy. Bob could barely eat a bite so we ended up throwing away most of his meal. We met group for town walk to learn about architecture (mostly Romanesque) and then toured Hotel Dieu, a medieval hospice facility. Awesome place! (forgot to say that our time in Reims included time in a tiny Alsatian town.called Kaysersburg, which was the favorite of everyone - Colmar was second, but we are all liking Beaune, too, because it is very small and easy to walk around.) The colored glazed tile roofs are unbelievable! And, ladies, the textiles are gorgeous. I made my only purchase of a beautiful tablecloth and napkins in lovely fabric that will last longer than I ...
